Building Community. Building Peace. Building Lives.

Banks are here to help.

Formed in 2017, Memphis Area Community Reinvestment Act Association (Memphis Area CRA) addresses the economic needs of low- to moderate-income individuals and families in Memphis and Shelby County. We’re bringing banks—and resources—to people and communities in need. Our purpose? To equip and empower people to believe in their own futures.

“In doing what’s best, you have to have heart for the work.”

—Gerrie Currie, Former Memphis Area CRA President

The Community Reinvestment Act is a United States federal law designed to encourage commercial banks and savings associations to help meet the needs of borrowers in all segments of their communities, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.

Growing Stronger Together

Memphis Area CRA strengthens Memphis communities by:

  • Introducing affordable, accessible banking products

  • Offering affordable mortgages to buy a home or stay in a home

  • Providing loans to help small businesses operate and expand

  • Offering financing for affordable housing, economic development, and community services (e.g., the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit)

  • Making investments in Community Development Financial Institutions and credit unions that serve individuals, small businesses and nonprofit developers

  • Providing philanthropic grants to nonprofits that develop, advocate for and support affordable housing, economic development, financial empowerment and community services
